PIGEON FORGE, Tenn.—Dollywood offers runners and walkers a rare opportunity to burn some pre-Thanksgiving calories in the second annual Light the Way 5K Run/Walk on Friday, Nov. 16, at 11 p.m. on a course that winds in and about the 150-acre theme park’s Smoky Mountain Christmas festival.
Light the Way 5K participants begin their journey at Dollywood’s front gate and wind through the theme park. Along the way, runners and walkers enjoy the park’s more than four million holiday lights and award-winning Christmas décor.
“Our Light the Way 5K event is unusual in that it begins at 11 p.m. but it’s truly a one-of-a-kind event because the course winds through Dollywood amid some of the most amazing Christmas scenery anywhere,” Dollywood’s Vice President of Finance Cindy Smelcer said. “The lights and the music are added inspiration for all involved.”
The Light the Way 5K benefits Share It Forward, a non-profit charity established for the purpose of raising funds to help The Dollywood Company Hosts and their immediate families in times of need.
Last year’s event attracted 520 participants.
Registration is $30, and each participant receives an official race day t-shirt (while supplies last). Participants may register online at DollywoodLightTheWay5K.com or visit the Knoxville Track Club’s website at KTC.org for mail-in registration. Race day registration begins at Dollywood’s front gate at 9:30 p.m.
