Why You Should Visit Dollywood in the Winter

January 13, 2023

I know what you're thinking. “Josh, it's winter. Dollywood is closed. Why would we go visit?” It sounds like you're battling PDCS (Post Dollywood Closure Sadness). If you think that Dollywood and Pigeon Forge take a break in the winter, you are sadly mistaken! While the main gates may be closed and the parks are full of more construction equipment than people, there still is plenty to do at Dollywood Resorts and the surrounding area. Let me share your options for a winter trip to the Smokies.

Winter Music Series

Lyrics and Lore

Dollywood's DreamMore Resort and Spa is THE place to be for any music lover this time of year. The themed resort is playing host to its second annual Winter Music Series from this weekend through March 3. Artists like The Young Fables, T. Graham Brown, Marty Haggard and more are set to entertain guests each weekend. Tickets and room packages for the event can be purchased on our website, and more information on Dollywood's Winter Music Series can be found right here. Our parks' off-season is an ideal time to snag some deals on resort stays.

Pink Jeep Adventure Tours

Pink Adventure Tours

Colder weather doesn't take away from the natural beauty of the Great Smoky Mountains, and there is one option to see the mountains without getting too chilly. Pink Jeep Adventure Tours operates no matter the season and is a great way for groups to experience the Smokies together. With a Pink Jeep guide and covered/heated Jeep, entire parties no matter the age, ability or willingness to hike are able to see Dollywood's surrounding picturesque landscape with ease.

Check Out Pigeon Forge

Smoky Mountain hiking

While Dollywood has more than 50 attractions spread across its 165 acres, it is not the only thing to do in Pigeon Forge. When the parks are open and lively, there are so many things to do in one day, that many of the area attractions are overlooked. Winter is the perfect time to take advantage of Dollywood getting some work done to check out the rest the Smokies has to offer. You can always keep up with what's going on in the area at mypigeonforge.com! Note Wilderness Wildlife week starting Jan. 24!

Get a Bite to Eat

Dolly Parton's Stampede

East Tennessee is a foodie's paradise. From finger-licking barbecue to down-home country cooking, there is no shortage of delicious venues to enjoy a hearty meal during the cold season. Dollywood's DreamMore Resort and Spa's own restaurant, Song & Hearth: A Southern Eatery, often offers a special or two during this time (so be sure to check out the website when you're in town for the Winter Music Series!) and the world-famous Pigeon Forge dinner theaters typically open back up in early February. Venues like Dolly Parton's Stampede and Pirates Voyage Dinner & Show don't stop at just the meal; they also provide high-quality entertainment. The Smokies are an ideal vacation/getaway destination year-round. Last I checked, that included wintertime when the crowds are smaller. So, what are you waiting for? Get up here!
