Some of our contributors have lived here their whole lives, while some have moved here recently. Others are frequent visitors to the area, and others have only been here a few times. The one thing they all have in common? They all have a love and appreciation for the beautiful area we call the Great Smoky Mountains.

Our kids are all-in when it comes to roller coasters. They love the thrill of every drop, twist and turn. They also enjoy making ridiculous faces at the ride cameras. Every time we exit a ride and see the pictures at the photo kiosk, we always have a good laugh. The kids are laughing or striking funny poses, my husband has a look of both fear and excitement on his face, and I usually have my eyes closed! We always have a good family laugh but never purchase the photos because, really, what would we do with them? We’ll probably…

Growing up just a few hours down the road in Southern West Virginia, Dollywood and Sevier County have been a staple in my family for generations. My grandparents spent their honeymoon here (back before Dollywood was Dollywood!), my parents would drive here with friends, and now it’s my turn to carry on our treasured Dollywood traditions.

After much anticipation, the ropes dropped on Dollywood’s biggest coaster ever and Big Bear Mountain officially opened to the public on Friday, May 12. As the first search groups embark on the search for this legendary creature, we’d like to reflect on all the buzz in the air during opening day and show some love to the brilliant theming featured on this ride.

It's the second leading cause of death (only behind car wrecks) in children 1 -14 years old. At Dollywood's Splash Country, we believe it's our responsibility to raise awareness about water safety.

One awesome and impressive element during this time is Chalk Artistry by Jaimie Houser. Guests can catch Jaimie working away in the Adventures in Imagination area of the park (next to Dolly's Closet) on good-weather days during Flower & Food Festival. I spent a day with Jaimie capturing her creating the vibrant flower-scape below. This five-hour project has been condensed to less than two minutes!

I think many parents will agree with me-you gotta do what you gotta do to keep your sanity when you have a baby in the house. In my case that means getting out of the house frequently, and my 3-year-old is grateful that we still enjoy outings! Dollywood is located in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. The name of the town comes from a local blacksmith shop that was established in the early 1800s. It was an influential business named after the Little Pigeon River. The name of the forge became synonymous with the town itself. It's only fitting, then, that Dollywood has its own functional blacksmith shop inside our theme park. Because it's 2020, perhaps you've never visited a blacksmith shop before.

I'm not going to argue that there's a substitute for experiencing Dollywood in-person because there isn't. BUT, when being at the park is not an option, I do have a suggestion for you. We have several on-ride coaster videos that allow you to take a 360-degree adventure right where you are. I am often asked what it is like at Dollywood when the boss is in town. By boss I mean, of course, Dolly Parton. Dolly is the Dreamer in Chief for Dollywood, a company she owns with Herschend Family Entertainment and her partners Jack and Sherry Herschend and Pete and JoDee Herschend. At the same time, tournament brackets have been released, and college teams across the country are preparing for a full-scale NCAA tournament for the first time since 2019. With both things going on at the same time, I hate deciding which to focus on. If only there was a way that I could combine these two obsessions.

Dollywood is closed, and for that reason, it felt very fitting that there was snow on the ground when I walked the park to see the off-season projects already underway. Our operating calendar takes us through the first of the new year, but we close shortly thereafter because it can get pretty chilly in the Smoky Mountains during January and February. It's a short break, though, because we'll be ready to host guests again March 12. (Season Passholders will get to enjoy Passholder Preview Day on March 11!) Behind Wildwood Grove's perimeter fence sits an air field. It's not always been there. It was added for the nighttime experience we have for Smoky Mountain Summer Celebration. To be honest, I couldn't picture what a 3D multi-sensory drone light show would be like. Yes, I've seen videos. I had even seen an animation of what Dollywood's Sweet Summer Nights would be like. From the off-season files: What's going on in Dollywood's Wardrobe Department? January and February used to be a slow time of year, but there's no time for a slowdown anymore. This period is the window to prepare for the year ahead. The Wardrobe Team is tasked with costuming all Dollywood Company hosts-that is, people who work at Dollywood, Dollywood's Splash Country, Dollywood's DreamMore Resort and Spa and Dollywood's Smoky Mountain Cabins. As a company, we learned a lot after opening Dollywood's DreamMore Resort and Spa-including a lot about laundry! Originally, we took care of all laundry without bells and whistles. Then, we got smart and moved the linens operation to a warehouse. That gave us a lot more elbow room to sort, wash, dry and fold. Just think of all the laundry a resort dirties: flat sheets, fitted sheets, blankets, pillow cases, inserts, bed scarves, bed skirts, mattress pads, bath towels, bath mats, wash cloths, hand towels, pool towels, spa linens and robes, restaurant napkins and table cloths... and I'm not…

Dollywood's Splash Country lifeguards are among the best in the industry. And I can prove it. Earlier this week, we received our 17th consecutive EXCEEDS score. Let me explain why that is impressive: Our water park and lifeguards are certified through Jeff Ellis & Associates (E&A), a company that specializes in international aquatic safety and risk management consultation. That's a mouthful for people who train lifeguards across the globe. E&A not only teaches lifeguards the skills needed to keep guests safe at a water park, they also audit the guards at these facilities through unannounced observations.
