Does Dollywood Offer Parent Swap?

Yes. Dollywood's Parent Swap program lets groups with a younger child who doesn't meet a ride's height requirement still take turns riding. The whole party enters the main ride queue together and tells the ride host they would like to use Parent Swap. One parent will wait in the Parent Swap area with the child who cannot ride. When the parent that rode first returns, the waiting parent then may ride without going through the line again. Due to the dynamics of many Dollywood rides, particularly larger coaster rides, riders are not permitted to participate more than once consecutively without first exiting the ride vehicle and waiting. This also applies to those participating in Parent Swap if a child that rode with one parent wants to ride with the parent that waited with another child, meaning that they must exit the ride vehicle after riding and wait at a minimum for at least one ride vehicle to exit the station, or one complete ride cycle, prior to boarding the ride again. This “waiting period” permits the rider the opportunity to make a self-assessment on their ability to experience the ride again.

What Other Rider Safety Rules Should Families Know?

Beyond the height requirement itself, Dollywood requires every rider to have upper body control and be able to sit up straight with their head against the seat back. Guests with an amputation or prosthesis are encouraged to visit the Ride Accessibility Center before heading to an attraction, and Tennessee state law (Tennessee Statute 68-121-125) makes it every guest's responsibility to follow the safety rules posted at each ride.

Tips for a Dollywood Day With Mixed Ages and Heights

  • Measure your child at home before you go, but know Dollywood also measures on-site at ride entrances. Best way to ensure your child can ride is to have them measured before riding any rides at Dollywood’s Ride Accessibility Center near the Front Gate area.
  • Plan a rotation so a parent can wait with a shorter rider while the rest of the group rides a taller-tier coaster.
  • Head to the 36-inch and no-minimum-height attractions first if your group includes toddlers or younger kids.
  • Check the Dollywood Parks & Resorts app for real-time wait times so you can plan around naps and mealtimes.
  • Bring a printed or saved copy of this guide so you are not searching for height rules in line.
