A Day in The Life: Dollywood Intern Edition

Dollywood is Sevier County’s largest employer. And what I love is that the hosts who work there span all generations. Lately, The Dollywood Company has positioned itself as a premier opportunity for college students. (Have you heard about Grow U?!) I thought it would be fun to pick the brains of a couple of summer interns to ask them about their experience working at Dollywood.

I chatted with two hosts: Kathryn, who works on the Operations team, and Camryn, who works in Marketing. Here’s what they told me!

Where Are You From?

Operations – Attends the University of Central Florida in Orlando; she’s pursuing a Hospitality and Tourism degree

Marketing – Attends the University of Tennessee in Knoxville; she just graduated with a Public Relations degree

How did you find this internship opportunity?

Operations – Through her school Marketing – It was on Indeed.com

Kathryn, Operations Intern

What does a day at work look like for you?

Operations – I caught her on my way out by the Preferred Parking gate, and she said she works here often, making sure guests are heading the correct direction back to their vehicles. She said other times she will be at other locations throughout the park making sure guests are having a great experience.

Marketing – I met this young lady during a Dollywood influencer event. She works with the PR team and said every day is different! Sometimes she’s at the park or other properties, and other days, she’s in the office writing blogs and other content.

Where are you staying?

Operations – In housing provided by Dollywood. She lives with the other approximately 30 students interning for the summer at the park.

Marketing – Since she is local, she commutes to work daily.

How long is your internship?

Operations – Just for the summer semester (May-August)

Marketing – She began interning in February, and at the end of the spring semester she was asked to extend the internship until August for another semester.

What’s next for you?

Operations – Would love to work event management for a theme park! Marketing – Unsure of what’s next but would love to stay on at Dollywood!

Camryn, Marketing Intern All in all, I can’t imagine a better place to have an internship, and both of these women agreed! I wish I would’ve known about this opportunity when I was in college. I know where I’m encouraging my kids to apply for jobs when they’re in college *wink.* (You know it comes with great perks, right?) Be sure to tell every student you know about Dollywood internship opportunities! They can be found here.
